Abide With Me

Abide with me; fast falls the eventide;
The darkness deepens; Lord with me abide.
When other helpers fail and comforts flee,
Help of the helpless, O abide with me.

Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day;
Earth’s joys grow dim; its glories pass away;
Change and decay in all around I see;
O Thou who changest not, abide with me.

Hold Thou Thy cross before my closing eyes;
Shine through the gloom and point me to the skies.
Heaven’s morning breaks, and earth’s vain shadows flee;
In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me.

The Ode

They went with songs to the battle,
they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes,
steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end
against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

Advance Australia Fair

Australians all let us rejoice,
For we are young and free;
We’ve golden soil and wealth for toil;
Our home is girt by sea;
Our land abounds in nature’s gifts
Of beauty rich and rare;
In history’s page, let every stage
Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia Fair.

Beneath our radiant Southern Cross
We’ll toil with hearts and hands;
To make this Commonwealth of ours
Renowned of all the lands;
For those who’ve come across the seas
We’ve boundless plains to share;
With courage let us all combine
To Advance Australia Fair.
In joyful strains then let us sing,
Advance Australia Fair.

PoppyService01Where: Redcliffe Cemetery
When: Sunday 22nd April from 10:00am

The Redcliffe RSL Poppy Service is unlike any other Anzac tradition. It is one unique to the Peninsula and crowd sizes have been growing each year.

The Poppy Service was designed as a tribute to the lives of fallen Diggers, and is held on the Sunday before Anzac Day each year.

For the past 20 years, the Legacy Laurel Club ladies have been handmaking crepe paper poppies which are placed on the graves of our beloved ex-servicemen and women.

“It is, in a way, a celebration of people’s lives and it is not a sombre occasion. It’s a day we pay homage and honour those who lost their lives during conflict, or as a result of their injuries.”
Bill Stowers, Redcliffe RSL Secretary

Conclusion of Service

The Lord Is My Sherpherd

The Lord’s my shepherd, I’ll not want.
He makes me down to lie
In pastures green; He leadeth me
The quiet waters by.
My soul he doth restore again,
And me to walk doth make
Within the paths of righteousness,
Ev’n for his own name’s sake.
Goodness and mercy all my life,
Shall surely follow me;
And in God’s house for evermore
my dwelling place shall be.

The Ode

They went with songs to the battle,
they were young.
Straight of limb, true of eyes,
steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end
against odds uncounted,
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old,
as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun
and in the morning
We will remember them.

LEST WE FORGET

God Defend New Zealand

God of nations at thy feet
In the bonds of love we meet.
Hear our voices, we entreat,
God defend our free land.
Guard Pacific’s triple star
From the shafts of strife and war,
Make her praises heard afar,
God defend New Zealand.

How Great Thou Art

Stanza 1:
O Lord my God,
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all
The works Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars,
I hear the mighty thunder,
hy pow’r throughout
The universe displayed;

Refrain:
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

Stanza 4:
When Christ shall come,
With shouts of acclamation,
And take me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration
And there proclaim,
“My God, how great Thou art!”

Refrain:
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

Conclusion of Service

Amazing Grace

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.
‘Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved,
How precious did that grace appear,
The hour I first believed.
Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now am found,
Was blind but now I see.
