In 1920, Shortly after the end of the Great War as it was known then, now known as the First World War (1914 – 1918), a small number of returned “Diggers” got together and decided to form a Sub-Branch of the newly formed (1916) Returned Sailors and Soldiers Imperial League of Australia (RSSILA), so that they could help their fellow returned servicemen.

This ideal remains one of the core values and focus of our Club.

This page gives a brief history of our Club – The Returned & Services League of Australia (Queensland Branch) Redcliffe Sub Branch Inc. – known to all simply and affectionately as the Redcliffe RSL.

Redcliffe Sub-Branch formed with 15 members.

Governor of Queensland Sir Mathew Nathan officially opens the Woody Point Hall which was the Sub-Branch’s first permanent meeting place.

Sub-Branch receives its charter.

The Sub-Branch Women’s Auxiliary formed.

Sub-Branch made a grant of land – now the current location of the Redcliffe RSL.
Foundation stone laid by Lieutenant Governor of Queensland, the Honourable F.A Cooper.
The first section of the Conference Hall (as it was then known) completed.
Liquor Licence granted. Redcliffe RSL & Ex-Services Club formed, separate from the Sub-Branch.
Anzac Place opened and dedicated as a memorial by Monsignor B. Frawley OBE.
Reconstructed RSL building opened by former Sub-Branch President, Alderman T. Wallace.
Major renovation commence, to be completed in 1998;

  • Major facilities such as Gaming Room, Bistro, new Bar and Lounge moved upstairs.
  • Kokoda Room added.
Redcliffe RSL Sub-Branch becomes a founding member of the Brisbane North Regional District of the Queensland RSL.
Sub-Branch incorporated.

Amalgamation of Club with Sub-Branch into one entity.

Major renovations;

  • Removal of Island Bar.
  • Construction of new Bar and Breezes Café.
  • Provision of upstairs smoking deck area.

Major renovations;

  • Modernisation of the entire club.
  • Expansion of upstairs smoking deck
  • Remodelling of front entry and driveway.

Club celebrates 90th Anniversary of the formation of the Redcliffe RSL Sub-Branch.

Major renovations;

  • Complete remodelling of ground floor.
  • Construction of new Café/Bar/Restaurant – The Point.
  • Relocation of TAB and Sports Lounge.
  • Addition of dining deck on first floor.

Completion of major renovations;

  • Significant expansion of Gallipoli Grill, including new all-weather dining deck.
  • Construction of new Pension & Welfare Offices in space previously occupied by Bottle Shop.
  • Modernisation of Reception area.
  • Installation of major feature lighting within Gaming Room and chandelier above main stairs.
