An Important Safety Message from the General Manager Regarding COVID-19

As part of our work health and safety policy commitment, the health and safety of our workers, members, guests, patrons and volunteers are our number one priority in relation to the current health and safety risks associated with the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

Whilst COVID-19 is a potential risk to all parts of our community, the Club continues to monitor and assess new developments relating to COVID-19 and will continue to work with authorities and industry experts in implementing precautionary measures to help manage ALL risk associated with COVID-19 relating to the club.

We are closely monitoring the situation and are staying across the official advice provided by the Australian Department of Health and Queensland Health.

Whilst we currently have strict hygiene practices and cleaning standards in place, as a precaution, we have also introduced a number of additional measures to reduce the risk and support a safe environment for all persons. In doing so, the club continues to undertake its business with minimal interruptions, and no different from other emergencies that have impacted the club and the community in the past which we have successfully managed.

From a community and public health perspective, we kindly ask that all our members, guests, patrons and volunteers assess their own health and that of people they are in close contact with and remain isolated (i.e. remain at home) if they start to feel unwell with symptoms such as a fever, sore throat, dry cough, headache, fatigue and nasal congestion or a runny nose.

In relation, we have reinforced this policy approach for all our workers including myself. Workers have been requested not to attend work if any of the above symptoms apply. Just remember that symptoms will generally appear three to four days after exposure to the coronavirus but can be up to 14 days later.

Just as we have asked of all our workers, we also kindly ask that you do not visit the club if any of the following apply:

  1. You have been or transited through the following countries within the past 14 days: mainland China; Iran; Republic of Korea; Italy; or
  2. You have been in close contact with a person who has been diagnosed with COVID-19 or is displaying the symptoms of COVID-19.
  3. You have travelled to another area and are showing symptoms of COVID-19.

Of importance, the club has already implemented appropriate measures as part of its precautionary measures’ and as a priority for your health and safety. These precautionary measures include:

  • Disinfecting ‘physical touch areas’ such as gaming areas, food and beverage preparation areas, bathrooms, handrails, reception registration counters and floors continuously throughout operating hours and after operating hours.
  • Regularly disinfecting all furniture, linen and utensils before and after use.
  • Providing hand sanitisers (i.e. Alcohol based hand rub) in all areas.
  • Providing soaps in all our bathrooms.
  • Providing general hygiene information and procedures for all persons.
  • Undertaking ongoing cleaning of the club by professional cleaning contractors on a daily basis, which includes additional cleaning and sanitising.

For the health and safety of all our workers and the whole community, we are also asking all our members, guests, patrons and volunteers to practice good general hygiene.

Additional procedures may come into effect as we continue to monitor the information from the relevant authorities and industry experts, and if that is the case, the club will provide you with an update.

We encourage our members, guests, patrons and volunteers to adhere to the following important safety measures the Australian Department of Health and Queensland Health have recommended to limit the spread of COVID-19. These include:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and clean running water (hot or cold) by scrubbing them for at least 20 seconds.

  • Maintain at least 1 metre distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.
  • Avoid physical contact when greeting.
  • Safe greetings include a wave, a nod or a bow.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Cover your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze.
  • Immediately dispose of the used tissue.

While we understand that some of you may wish to remain at home during this time, we do encourage you to continue to support our workers and the Club community.

We also would like to clarify that the Australian Government’s recent ban that ‘non-essential’ gatherings of more than 500 people DOES NOT include the normal trading/operations of the hospitality industry, so it is business as usual for the Club.

We will closely continue to monitor the situation and Government health and safety advice and update you with any significant developments.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for understanding and support and we look forward to seeing you.

Peter Forsey
General Manager
